Kick your content marketing up a notch in 2014

The landscape for effective content marketing plan has changed and for the better. Today it's simply not enough to pump out meaningless content just for quantity: you have to pass a quality sniff test before you reap any of the many benefits!

Now quality reigns, and using socially sharable content, and on several different channels is the method to get the coveted search rankings and traffic we seek. The question now is: how should we do that, exactly?

Best practices for content marketing in 2014

Today's content is multichannel and ready to transcend whatever device the consumer is using. Since greater than 50 percent of internet access is done through a mobile platform, (and that number is increasing) we no longer have an option of whether to publish for mobile platforms or not. Unless you want to take half your audience out of your equation! So it's very important to make sure any content we create is optimized for mobile platforms as well.

Here are 3 ways to win with content marketing going forward.

Infographics and Visuals – Everybody loves a good infographic, and you can find a use for one in nearly any market. Neil Patel of KISSmetrics discovered more than 2.5 million visitors and over 40,000 backlinks when he instituted an aggressive infographic initiative. Learn more about that here.

Make lots of videos! – The huge audience that even simple videos can bring to your site is staggering. Make it your business to create a video plan immediately if not sooner, and implement it on a regular basis. Brand your business YouTube channel, and treat it like the traffic and social channel it is.

Long form authority content – Original, quality longer content is the best way to ingratiate yourself with Google's search algorithm. Not only that, in-depth content showcases your authority, and stands a far better chance of being shared widely, resulting in a number of benefits.

So the important thing for content marketing in the short term is quality, visual and multichannel. You'll notice that not only will this work better, it will also be a lot more fun!
